Border outlines quiz: recognize countries by their shape
Take away the map, the colors and the neighbors, and all that is left is a shape. This quiz shows the outline of a country on its own and asks you to name it. Some are unmistakable (Italy, Chile); others are small, round or irregular and need real practice.

- Learn the distinctive silhouettes first: the boot of Italy, the thin strip of Chile, the long coast of Norway and the triangle of India.
- Look at the edges. Straight lines usually mean borders drawn by treaty or on a map (as in much of Africa, the Middle East and the western United States), while borders along rivers and mountains are curved.
- Small countries are the hard part: practice the Balkans, the Caribbean and West Africa as groups.
